The Rainbow Connection Therapeutic Horseback Riding Center is proud to announce that it has a new equine therapist on staff. “Sidney” arrived in Anchorage on May 10, from Idaho where he was raised. Sidney is a Norwegian Fjord gelding who is just 8 years old. He is a stout 14 hands tall and weighs in at 1,000 pounds.
Fjords are strong, sturdy horses and they are virtually indestructible. The breed is known for its great bones and strong hooves. Fjords are gentle, wonderful driving horses, and they have wide backs that are conducive to tandem riding and just overall having fun with.
Sidney is totally kid-safe and kid-friendly and he has a very mellow temperament. He has been ridden English, Western and bareback. He drives singularly and in pairs and has also done some vaulting.
There were a number of generous donors who helped make the purchase of Sidney possible. We owe great thanks to Rev. Betty Lou and Colonel (Retired) Richard Anthony, the Hillside Highriders 4-H Club and the Mabry family. Thank you all for your bighearted contributions!
We hope that you will come out and see Sidney over the summer at the WCCEC. We’d love to have the opportunity to introduce you to the newest member of our team!
