We would like to thank every donor and attendee who contributed toward the success of this year’s Cowboy Ball, as the event committee could not have accomplished this fundraising feat without everyone’s involvement. In particular, Rainbow Connection would like to thank its corporate table sponsors and event contributors: Silver Sponsor: Palmier-Erwin, LLC
Rainbow Connection recognized Mr. Jim Barnett as its 2011 Major Contributor of the Year. Mr. Barnett has provided invaluable legal advice to Rainbow Connection for many years. He was instrumental in helping to draft the lease agreement that Rainbow Connection has with the Municipality of Anchorage in regards to the parcel of land at the William Clark Chamberlin Equestrian Center, where Rainbow will be erecting its covered riding arena. We thank Mr. Barnett for his service to Rainbow Connection and we salute his enthusiasm and passion for Rainbow’s mission in our shared community.
We have also been accepted as one of four recipients for the Mayor’s Charity Ball! This the 19th Annual Mayor’s Charity Ball and will be held on October 13, 2012. This news is very exciting and comes with more need for donations for the live and silent auction. If you have anything to donate for this cause, please let us know! Please visit the Mayor’s Charity Ball website to learn more about this event. New RC DirectorThe Rainbow Connection Therapeutic Horseback Riding Center has named Ms. Laurie Linsley (formerly Hogan) the new Executive Director. Laurie is a Recreational Therapist and has worked with a variety of populations in therapeutic settings for over 25 years. Currently, Laurie is working on her Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and will specialize in Equine Assisted Psychotherapy. Laurie recently worked for the Department of Defense as a family support program manager, prior to which she co-coordinated KidsDay and owned Cowkidz Pony Ranch, a program offering summer day camps teaching children to ride horses. She adopted horses from Alaska Equine Rescue and in her free time Laurie ran a 4-H club offering her horses to children in the community to learn about horse care and riding. During that time she met an extraordinary young woman with Cystic Fibrosis who gave her a first-hand look at how powerful and therapeutic horses can be. Since then, it has been her life passion to learn more about the therapeutic value of horses. A 15 year resident of Alaska and horse owner, Laurie is no stranger to the hard work, sweat and tears it takes to care for horses in the Alaskan climate. Offering riding lesson in her spare time, Laurie is definitely a “lifer” when it comes to owning horses. “I know how much bonding with a horse meant to me as a young person, and it is my passion to share that feeling with others.” Laurie comes to The Rainbow Connection with a wide array of professional skills and great program development experience. Laurie is excited to be a part of this PATH, Int. (Professional Association for Therapeutic Horsemanship) certified center and is dedicated to providing professional quality programs with that down home feeling. Please come out to the William Clark Chamberlin Equestrian Center this summer and meet Laurie, the horses and the wonderful staff and volunteers!
